The Borders Archive is a personal digital archive of recorded sounds which focuses on the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland, a region rich in both human and natural history.
My current investigations include: an examination of the importance of sound across various aspects of the Scottish Borders Common Ridings; recordings taken at places of work; environmental recordings and biophonies.
Some recordings have resulted from opportunistic field work, some from year-on-year investigations. Others might best be described as conceptually driven interventions. Several works have come about by means of commissions and residencies. The recordings collected so far have been presented in many forms: documentary field recordings, musical compositions, installations and soundwalks.
I intend to find ways of making as many as possible of the recordings accessible to a wider audience.
