rough cuts from a harsh land: tarset 2007 (11' 35") mp3

Tarset is a remote valley in Northumberland, England. It is austere in its beauty and strong in community.  This piece portrays the character of Tarset, its land, people and history. It uses environmental sound, the spoken word (David and Maureen McCracken) and the poetry of Basil Bunting read by the author himself. The piece was commissioned by Visual Arts in Rural Communities (VARC). Neil Astley of Bloodaxe Books kindly granted permission to include the recorded poetry of Basil Bunting.
